Your Daily To-Do List for Serious Marketers by Zama Zincume
Fred Gleeck, my mentor, is sharing with you the”what” you need to do on a daily basis in information marketing business.

Whenever people contact me via email or see me at a
seminar or event I always get THIS question: What do
you DO every day to make your business REALLY go?
It’s a good question. Every business person should
have a daily to do list that gets them closer to their goals.
I’m not saying that everyone who markets and sells
information products should do what I say here, but it
would certainly be a good place to start. When you’re
done with my list, prepare your own. Then stick to it to
make sure you get to where you want to go.
1. WRITE!
In my case that means writing blog articles and working
on books that I have in the works. I try to make sure
that I knock out somewhere between 2500 and 3000
words a day. This used to sound like a lot, now it’s
actually pretty easy for me to do.
I am PROOF POSITIVE that ANYONE can become
a writer, and a decent one at that. I used to hate writing.
That’s why I gravitated towards speaking and made
(and still make) a good chunk of my money every year
giving speeches.
Most of the writing I do is in the morning. I try and
knock it out so it’s done.
2. Exercise.
Unless I exercise every day, I’m a basket case. I tend
to feel uptight and I’m not as productive. I try and get
this done in the morning if I can. Usually right after my
writing session.
My exercise sessions consist of aerobics, stretching
and strength. I do the elliptical machine or the exercise
bike or both. Then I stretch using one of those rubber
exercise balls. When I’m done there, I use this thing
called a BodyBlade which works on the strength side
of the equation.
If I don’t exercise, I’m MUCH less productive. I try to
never make the excuse to myself that I have
“too much to do.” Because when I get a work out in,
I get a LOT more actually done.
3. Eating.
After my workout I’ll make myself a smoothie. I have
this machine called a Vitamix which allows me to blend
just about anything you can think of. I do a mixture of
raw almonds, carrots, frozen strawberries, a frozen
banana, and then a few pieces of fresh, non frozen
fruit like apples and pears. Whatever is lying around.
I don’t peel anything, I just wash the non frozen items.
While sucking down the contents of the blender I
swallow my vitamins. A mixture of a multi-vitamins
and a few others. I have NO idea if these help me,
but its become a ritual and I do it every day.
4. Read!
I do a LOT of reading. Not just because I like it, but
because I HAVE to stay up with what’s going on in
my field. Every morning I start by going to Yahoo
and looking at the headlines. Since I don’t get a
newspaper delivered anymore, that is the first thing
I generally do when I get up.
From the headlines, I will generally click onto the “TECH”
page. There will usually be at least one or two items that
will stimulate my interest and have SOME relation to
information marketing in some manner, shape or form.
This will generally serve to help me create blog posts
that I will do soon after I go through Yahoo for about
15-20 minutes.
Each day, usually later in the early evening, I’ll pick up
a book and/or a magazine. I read both fiction and
non-fiction, usually in fairly equal amounts. Just
because you’re a business person does not mean you
should DROP your fiction reading. First, don’t do that
because reading fiction is FUN. Also, to stay up with
current trends in LIFE, you need to be reading what
other folks are reading.
5. Watch.
Most people look at TV as an escape. I use it at least
50% or more as a learning tool. I’ll watch some programs
for FUN, but I’ll also watch things both on TV and on
the web to LEARN.
As far as TV goes, I will watch the news, and, if the
guest is someone I’m interested in, I’ll turn on Charlie
Rose. I’ll also watch selected items on both FORA.TV
and Ted.com. They tend to have some decent stuff
that is related to technology.
I also have a guilty pleasure, TMZ. I rarely miss it. If you
haven’t seen it, it’s a hoot!
6. Create Videos.
I have been having a hard time building this into my
routine. It’s something that I know I NEED to do, but
I haven’t been able to build it into my schedule so I
do it EVERY day. I should. I think that one of the
reasons why I’m bringing it up here is to coax myself
into doing it more regularly. There is nothing better
than making public declarations that others can hold
you to to motivate action.
You (and I) can create videos in two primary ways
in this business. First, you can record yourself doing
something to illustrate a concept or a point to your
target niche. You can ALSO record something on
your screen.
For someone like myself who deals with teaching
a lot of technology related items, this is an ideal
way to illustrate many things. As a MAC user, I
use a program called ScreenFlow. If you’re a PC
person, the program to look into is Camtasia.
My goal is to produce one video daily. It doesn’t
have to be long, it just has to be done. When finished,
upload it to YouTube and post it to your blog. This
will give a big boost to your SEO efforts.
7. RELAX!
It may sound like I have a lot to do every day, but I
LOVE it, so it doesn’t really feel like work. That
being said, I like having down time. This means
spending time with friends and family. This might
mean talking around the dining room table, or
going to see a movie.
I will also go out to hear live music at least once a week.
This is an integral part of my daily mix, because if you
don’t RELAX, you won’t be nearly as productive when
you try and WORK.
Conclusion
This is what MY day looks like. I’m not suggesting
that you copy or imitate me. I AM suggesting that
you set up some kind of a schedule and stick to it.
No matter how “creative” a field you’re in, this will
help you GET THINGS DONE!
